How It Was Done

In 1991-1992 some 250 Rabbis of the Chabad-Lubavitch Chassidic movement made a decision that was and is still world changing. They decided to go public with a perception they all shared regarding their Spiritual leader a Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson whom we will refer to hereinafter as The Rebbe.

These 250 Rabbis were aware of several matters unknown to most other Rabbis worldwide. They had detected a startling congruency, a match, a cognition based upon privileged information that brought them to an awareness about their Rebbe that few others were able to appreciate and fewer still would even dare to entertain. Amongst themselves these 250 Rabbis agreed that sufficient evidence existed in the decades of accomplishments of Rabbi Schneerson’s Spiritual leadership of world Jewry to warrant and to publicly declare Rabbi Schneerson to be Judaism’s long awaited Final Redeemer with assurance. The most official way to make such a declaration in Judaism is to author what is called a Religious Ruling, Psak Din in Hebrew.

Judaism’s Messiah (long held to be but a dream of the distant future) thereupon had acquired a name and a face. The Messiah concept, which originated within Judaism, had been transformed from an ancient Jewish concept into a living Jewish Spiritual leader.   Here is their signed ruling: -

And here is Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the Rebbe.

To prevent the possibility of the wrong person being regarded as Judaism’s Messiah (as had happened with the Nazarene and Shabbatai Tzvi centuries earlier) the Jewish religious legal criteria to discern what Judaism’s Messiah had to do in order to be correctly recognized were enshrined in Jewish Religious Law. That Law (in part) now follows below. For our immediate purposes we will examine just a small section of this Law which gives birth to Judaism’s “portrait” of who and what Judaism’s Messiah must accomplish. Here is Law #4 from Maimonides' Legal Work, The Laws of Kings and Their Wars chapter 11: -
--------------------------------------------
4. If a king will arise from the House of David who delves deeply into the study of the Torah (the 5 Books of Moses) and, like David his ancestor, observes its mitzvos (Biblical Commandments) as prescribed by the Written Law and the Oral Law; if he will compel all of Israel to walk in [the way of the Torah - i.e. the Five Books of Moses] and repair the breaches [in its observance]; and if he will fight the wars of G-d; - we may, with assurance, consider him Moshiach.
If he succeeds in the above, builds the [Beis Ha]Mikdash (Third Holy Temple) on its site, and gathers in the dispersed remnant of Israel, he is definitely the Moshiach (Messiah). [5]
He will then perfect the entire world, [motivating all the nations] to serve G-d together, as it is written [Zephaniah, 3:9], "I will make the peoples pure of speech so that they will all call upon the Name of G-d and serve Him with one purpose."
---------------------------------------------
For going on 2,000 years Orthodox Jews have rejected outright all claims from Christianity that Judaism’s Messiah was manifest in the person of Jesus of Nazareth. As can be easily noticed…the above Law contains no reference to a virgin birth, 3 wise men, Bethlehem, a manger, or any star in the east. No requisite of performance of any miracles and rising from the dead are to be found in Law 11:4 above. This is why the Pharisees rejected the declared Jewish “Messiah” of the early Christians. In the days of Jesus the Second Jewish Holy Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed. The Third Holy Temple was not rebuilt. Jews were scattered to all corners of a 2,000 year long global Diaspora. Jews were not ingathered to the Holy Land. What should be clearly apparent is that Judaism’s Legal “portrait” of discerning Judaism’s “kosher” Messiah and Christianity’s “portrait” are not portraying the same Jewish Religious Legal criteria.  Jewish Religious Law regulates the Jewish Religion. Adherence to the Law is a specific Commandment from God found in Torah. Here it is: -
--------------------------------------
Deuteronomy - Chapter 17: 8-13

8. If a matter eludes you in judgment, between blood and blood, between judgment and judgment, or between lesion and lesion, words of dispute in your cities, then you shall rise and go up to the place the Lord, your God, chooses.

9. And you shall come to the Levitic kohanim and to the judge who will be in those days, and you shall inquire, and they will tell you the words of judgment.

10. And you shall do according to the word they tell you, from the place the Lord will choose, and you shall observe to do according to all they instruct you.

11. According to the law they instruct you and according to the judgment they say to you, you shall do; you shall not divert from the word they tell you, either right or left.

12. And the man who acts intentionally, not obeying the kohen who stands there to serve the Lord, your God, or to the judge that man shall die, and you shall abolish evil from Israel.

13. And all the people shall listen and fear, and they shall no longer act wantonly.

------------------------------------------

The early Christians had launched a man they sincerely thought was Judaism’s Messiah but he had no foothold for being presumed so in Jewish Religious Law. He had no Rabbinic approval. The Pharisees who were learned Torah Sages and who knew what to be on the lookout for found no congruency.  Instead of heeding these Sages as the above Deuteronomy Law requires the early Christian movement demonized them as “a generation of vipers”. Christianity decided that it knew Judaism’s Laws better than the Jewish Sages they were Legally bound to obey.

In 1991 a gathering of some 250 “kosher” Orthodox Jewish Rabbis issued a Legal Ruling declaring that they detected a significant (yet not complete) match between the life accomplishments of their Rebbe, Rabbi Schneerson and the criteria listed in Law 11:4 above.  To say that this 1991 religious ruling caused an immediate and long term uproar would be the biggest understatement possible. The resistance against that Ruling was immediate. It came from within and without of the Chabad-Lubavitch Movement. The 250 Rabbis and those who were paying close attention to them were immediately marginalized, ostracized, criticized as heretics and thus was the term “Lubavitch Messianism” born. By giving it that derogatory name the possibility that Judaism’s actual Messiah had been detected was thrown out the window. Orthodox Jewish groups, Conservative Jewish groups, Reform Jewish groups and many Christian groups suddenly found themselves at theological war with the epicenter of Chassidic Judaism, namely Chabad-Lubavitch. All these opposing groups were minus 2 major factors. They knew little about the Rebbe from an up close and personal relationship with him over decades of his leadership. They knew even less about Chassidus Chabad, which derives from Lurriannic Kaballah.  The opposing groups had made a snap judgement based upon examining just the “tip of the iceberg” of what was and is still afoot now in 2010.

Rabbi Schneerson passed away in 1994. With his demise many presumed that all was therefore immediately and forever lost. However there are no fewer than 13 Sacred Sources in Judaism’s Holy literature which reference the possibility of Judaism’s Messiah appearing from the dead. The most major and mainstream reference can be found in Talmud Sanhedrin p. 98b…bottom of the page. Here it is.

----------------------------------
R. Nahman said: if he [the Messiah] is of those living [today], it might be one like myself, as it is written, And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governors shall proceed from the midst of them.  Rab said: if he is of the living, it would be our holy Master; if of the dead, it would have been Daniel the most desirable man.  Rab Judah said in Rab's name: The Holy One, blessed be He, will raise up another David for us,  as it is written, But they shall serve the Lord their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them: not 'I raised up', [past tense] but 'I will raise up' [future tense] is said…
-------------------------------------
At a major meeting of the Jewish Orthodox Union of America held in the Catskill Mountains after the controversial 1991 Religious Ruling of the 250 Chabad Rabbis and following the 1994 demise of the Rebbe, the prominent Rabbi David Berger informed his co-religionists that there is no place in Judaism for a resurrected Messiah.  Within a few days 2 Chabad Rabbis responded to this charge from Rabbi Berger in the Jewish Press politely informing Rabbi Berger about Talmud Sanhedrin 98b and 12 other sources found in Judaism’s Sacred literature that speak specifically about a resurrected Messiah for Judaism. The candidacy of Rabbi Schneerson to still be Judaism’s Messiah had therefore not terminated nor strayed beyond the boundaries of Orthodox Jewish Law. Rabbi Schneerson’s 1994 passing did not disqualify him as still being a viable and kosher candidate to fill the position articulated in Law 11:4 above…but rather, the 1994 passing of Rabbi Schneerson was understood as nothing more than being part of the process of his ultimate revelation to mankind. Judaism had identified its true, only and 100% “kosher” King Messiah.

The identity of and the existence of Judaism’s Messiah had been determined via a Jewish Legal Ruling. Put succinctly, by 1991 some 250 Chabad Rabbis had perceived, understood and formally ruled that Messiah is.  The last time an event of such profound magnitude happened on planet Earth a man named Moses had communion with our common Father in Heaven at a Burning Bush and later again atop Mount Sinai. The Spiritual reality of the universe was changed forever by that communion.

The Spiritual and physical reality of the universe is similarly now in the process of changing again. However the changes that are in motion and upcoming will dwarf all of the Miracles recorded in the Book of Exodus. The greatest Event in human history is now unfolding and literally coming alive from the Jewish Bible. The majority of mankind hasn’t a clue as to what is truly happening.

In 1988 Rabbi Schneerson gave over a profound Chassidic Discourse titled Zeh Yitnu.  It reveals nothing less than what Messiah will accomplish posthumously prior to his later resurrection. Current world events since 1994 are following a course precisely articulated in that 1988 Chassidic Discourse.  Not only is the departed Messiah, Rabbi Schneerson, not dead… but he is influencing events on planet Earth in a manner known about only by master Kaballists.

Lest you think me insane for stating that a dead Chassidic Rabbi yet lives and is bringing about global changes while the possibility of such matters happening are entirely unbeknownst to mankind let me give you a little peek into another page from Talmud Sanhedrin...specifically page 97a...which states (at the top) that just prior to Messiah’s arrival there will be a global economic collapse!

Have you any recollection of such a global economic collapse transpiring in the fall of 2008?  Here is an email I received from a friend in Jerusalem. Start from the bottom and read upwards as you follow the email string. Perhaps you will come to see what I am attempting to awaken you to: -
----------------------------
Dear Moshe:

If this economic collapse lasts for three years and gets progressively worse over the next two years, then we are surely in the seven-year cycle spoken about in the Talmud in Sanhedrin. The Talmud predicts a seven-year cycle, a Shmittah cycle, in which a worldwide economic collapse takes place in the first three years of that cycle. In the fourth year of the cycle the economy is supposed to start improving, and in the fifth year tremendous blessing is poured out on to the world along with a worldwide spiritual revival. In the sixth year there are voices. What that is…is open for interpretation. In the seventh year the nations of the world gather against Yerushalayim (Jerusalem), and in the eighth year Ben David (Judaism Messiah) comes. That would be in the first year of the next Shmittah cycle.

Let us pray that we are in that eight-year cycle and that G-d speeds up the process so that we do not need to wait seven more years.

Hi Dov,

I trust all is well with you. I want to wish you and yours a Pesach kasher v'sameach. (A kosher and happy Passover)
Regarding the global economic collapse:
The key question is whether we are watching a mere repeat of 1929 or whether it is much direr. So far there appears to be neither leadership nor solutions that are actually fixing anything. Money is being printed out of thin air and this printing/spending formula is simply unsustainable.
My intuition is telling me that they will not be able to fix this mess. Furthermore it appears to fulfill what Bilaam foretold would occur. Here is what the Rebbe stated (emphasis is mine): -
--------------------------------------------------
PROPHECY TODAY

Adapted from the Works of the Rebbe

Of all the prophecies in Scripture that refer to the messianic era, the one contained in the Torah portion of Balak, is most unusual in that it came from Bilaam, a gentile prophet. Bilaam, the foremost prophet of his time, was forced against his will to foretell the downfall of the nations of the world and the ultimate ascendancy of the Jewish people.
The very fact that this prophecy is included in our holy Torah indicates its special significance; indeed, it contains a distinct advantage precisely because it was said by a non-Jew. For when Moshiach (Judaism’s Messiah) comes, the Jewish people will no longer be subservient to the nations; on the contrary, the gentile leaders will vie with one another for the privilege of serving the Jews! Thus, the prophecy of Bilaam concerning the Final Redemption not only gave the Children of Israel cause for rejoicing over their future, it actually afforded them a "taste" of the way things will be in the messianic era.

------------------------------

My late father, may he rest in peace, told me that there are three types of people in the world.

1) Those who make things happen.
2) Those who say “Something’s happening”.
3) Those who say, “What happened?”

To my father’s list of 3 I now add a fourth group.

4) Those who say, “Nothing happened”.

------------------------------
Oh indeed something has and is happening. It is hidden in plain sight. You will find reference to it in the book of Exodus where we learn that our common Father in Heaven selected a compassionate Jewish shepherd named Moses who later went to the palace of Pharaoh and was the conduit by which the superpower of it’s day, namely Egypt, met its demise. Moses had no military weapons or great wealth to speak of. His speech was not perfect. He had but two seemingly useless “weapons”: - 1) He was selected by God for a specific task of Redeeming the Jews from Egyptian slavery and 2) Due to the paramount Holiness and Spiritual perfection of Moses his prayers affected the destiny of Pharaoh and all of Egypt. The empowerment flow chart from top to bottom i.e. from Heaven to matters occurring on Earth would therefore look like this in the days of Pharaoh:

1) God
2) Moses
3) Pharaoh
4) Egypt

Now let me update this empowerment flowchart to the year 2010.

1) God
2) The Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson
3) The present and future rulers over the nations of the world whose Spiritual root resides in ancient Egypt.
4) The 200 or so nations of the world who comprise the membership of the United Nations and whose Spiritual ancestry goes back to ancient Egypt.

It has been some 16 years since the passing of Rabbi Schneerson. The 250 Chabad Rabbis who signed their Legal Ruling that we first referenced at the start of this article have not had any sort of change of mind or change of heart or change of understanding. They still know that Rabbi Schneerson is Judaism'’ only and true "“Kosher” Messiah and that this story is certainly not over. While it may be very tempting to claim that these 250 Rabbis are just expressing irrational Faith or are just too proud or too stupid or too stubborn to admit that they made a huge mistake and should therefore rescind and repeal their Ruling it would be wiser to appreciate why they are still holding fast and firm to their original Ruling.

The answer lies in something revealed to them by Rabbi Schneerson in the early 1990’s during a Chassidic Discourse. Rabbi Schneerson taught that the primary novelty of the Messianic Era is the revelation of the existence of Moshiach (Judaism’s King Messiah) and that all other matters are subsumed within (and will follow from) that fact. If you would like a simpler example try this on for size. We gaze upon a tall hill where a huge bolder rests. Suddenly it begins to roll down to the deep valley below. Nothing can or will stop it. It is foreknown knowledge that this bolder will be located in this deep valley. It is inevitable.

The revelation of the existence of Moshiach is our bolder. The revelation of the existence of Moshiach means that the arrival of Moshiach is a must-happen and a will-happen situation that no force on Earth can nor will reverse. Welcome to the Messianic Era… now well underway. The nations of the world will suffer a downfall. The secular State of Israel will also suffer a downfall. Amidst the rubble of two thousand years of human history will arise a world whose primary occupation will be to know God. The Holy Land will expand to its Biblically assigned borders. All of the Holy Land will become Jerusalem. The rest of the world will willingly transform themselves Spiritually to become Israel. The word Israel can be understood to mean “Straight with God”.

Unfortunately most people never even think about God unless they are lying flat on their back and helpless. The countless idolatries that mankind has invented (which spit in the face of our common Father in Heaven) will all be demolished. The 10 Plagues that befell Egypt were directed against the pantheon of false deities that Egypt worshipped. Egypt believed that the Nile River was it's sole source of life. They refused to contemplate (let alone worship) the Creator who made the Nile River.  The first Plague against Egypt was directed against the Nile.

The first Plague of the currently unfolding Final Redemption of world Jewry (and all of mankind) has become openly apparent. The Almighty God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob does not appreciate the world’s perceptions as pertains to what mankind calls the “almighty dollar” which is more than worshipped.  And should you imagine that this Final Redemption is a private party for Jews only… then you are sadly mistaken. Millions of Egyptians caught on to what was happening in the days of Moses. They knew Pharaoh and Egypt were going down for the final count. They joined ranks with the departing Jews and wandered the desert with them. They witnessed Mount Sinai in real time. What is coming down from Heaven as I type will dwarf all prior human history. There are literally no words to express how huge of a situation we are facing. And amidst all of this pending and inevitable change we going to experience we have the sad spectacle of a group of Chabad Rabbis who have neither desire nor the skills to professionally inform mankind of what is transpiring.  Their primary concern is that by officially launching the known existence of Judaism’s Moshiach to the world at large there exists the possibility that such a move will affect their funding. Some 6 billion humans are therefore going to encounter Moshiach cold turkey.

I plan to do something to change that which is why I have decided to publish this article. I wish you good luck in understanding what I am attempting to share. I wish you good luck in whatever God has in store for you and yours. Rabbi Schneerson gave over formal Directives to the many hundreds of Chabad Rabbis under his leadership. At the annual convention of Chabad Rabbis from around the globe (in the early 1990’s) the following specific instruction was given to them.

---------------------------------
Every shliach (underling Rabbi under Rabbi Schneerson’s leadership) should realize that he is responsible to explain the above concepts (regarding Moshiach’s imminent arrival) to all the individuals in his city. He must convey to them, in a manner that they can understand and relate to, the imminence of Moshiach’s coming and the need to study about Moshiach and the Era of the Redemption.
---------------------------------
Please note that in the above directive the Rebbe stated “individuals” and not just Jews of their cities.  The advent of Judaism’s Messiah is going to be a front burner issue for many, many years.  At some point in time all of mankind will realize that we are dealing with a Divinely-driven Event on our hands and not just an economic road bump like 1929 was that, as people hope, will right itself…in time.

A prior paradigm of human history is now crumbling and in its place will be a paradigm based upon Holiness and serving our common Father in Heaven.  And one might well ask…What’s in it for me?”

Here is a peek at the goodness and Blessing that awaits us all...if we chose to be on the right and winning side of this unfolding Event. The Messianic Era is incorrectly understood by Christianity to be a period of global destruction. The 4 horsemen represent the deepest fears of believing Christians. I want to again point out to your audience that this entire topic of Messiah began in Judaism...not Christianity. The Messianic Era was referenced in the Torah and repeatedly in the Book of Jewish Prophets years and years before the advent of Christianity. It behooves a genuine seeker of truth to get to the original source material on this topic which resides in Judaism and to stop ignoring or dismissing the “Old” Testament. Here is what mankind faces with the full arrival of the Messianic Era:

- Illness will cease to exist globally and all medical professionals will be devoting their skills to increasing health…not curing illness.

- There will be enough food and shelter for all of humanity.

- There will be no more war. Swords will be turned into ploughshares. There will be eternal peace on Earth.

- The Spirit of Evil will be removed from all of Creation so that people's choices will not include anything negative or harmful; yet we will be faced with endless possibilities for personal growth and awareness of the Divine.

- The State of Israel will transform into being a truly Holy Land. The borders will expand to include the Bible's specified and foretold boundaries for the Holy Land. All of the Holy Land will become Jerusalem while the rest of the world spiritually elevates to become the Holy Land. This does not mean the loss of nationality of the nations. America will still be America in every respect with one profound exception; namely, the sole focus of all of humanity will be to know the Lord. Every nation will enthusiastically bring offerings to our common Father in Heaven at the Third Holy Temple in Jerusalem. This will occur on the Jewish Holiday of Succoth.
- The Final Redemption of the Messianic Era is not a private Jewish party. It's the Redemption for all of mankind. The Jews will Spiritually rise to fulfill their Divine Task of being a Light unto the nations. The Messianic Era has nothing to do with military dominance or gathering power or riches for self glory or pleasure.  It has to do with all of us serving God in a way that will bring eternal Blessings and peace.
